The rules that govern most human relationships in the business world are the same ones from the high school cafeteria. As supposed adults, our bodies may get bigger, but our systems for understanding the people around us tend to advance very little.
Often an entrepreneur or executive will do and say what they must to fit in at the lunch table – various and sundry attempts are made to conform or fall-in to expected patterns of behavior and speech. If you follow the unspoken rules of your industry, then you can create something that is, hopefully, sustainable.
But what if that isn’t you? What if you want something that is not so ordinary? What is your vision for your business or your career is something more audacious?
The only thing that will separate you from the hordes of others who claim to do what you do is your story – your earnest uniqueness. And your ability to craft a true, compelling story will separate you from the wanna-be’s trying to sit at the cool kid table. Because you’re better than that anyway.
